Today we got to meet the first of our 2 new robots! Dot is a little robot that can be coded using our iPads. We can code the Dot to make light patterns and different sounds.
We were lucky to have Mr.Waller come in and introduce it to our class, and we had so much fun getting to try it.

We were so lucky to have Mr.Waller come in and talk to us about digital citizenship and what that looks like on SeeSaw. He showed us some of his art posts on SeeSaw and talked about how he felt when people gave him likes and wrote nice things. We also talked about how he felt when people did not post nice things and how that could make someone really sad. We even got some time to try it out ourselves. We know that we will definitely THINK before we post from now on!
As many of you know I was away on Tuesday due to illness. I am happy to be back and we have been learning about so many things. In Science we have started to learn about energy and the sun. In social studies we have started learning about community. In Math we have been practicing our addition We had so much fun making jellyfish to celebrate living things. We went to the gym and got to first listen to a read aloud. Then we split into groups and did some buddy reading with 1A and 1C. We had so much fun reading new books and making new friends.
Sorry for not posting yesterday!
The last 2 days have been busy with lots of art, creating book covers in English and starting to learn and practice addition in math! Unfortunately we have been so busy that we only took a few pictures! Today was a very rainy start to our week and we were pretty restless because we did not get to play outside.
We got to go to the library but we did not take out new books since we just came on Thursday. We wrote our math test and everyone did really well. Today we had a fun day. In science we talked some more about living things and their environment. We played a Kahoot to practice our math patterning and we finished our day with some art. This morning in English we were talking about how to use our dictionary. We talked about how dictionaries are for tricky words. We discussed some strategies for spelling unknown words (stretching out the word, chunking the word, using word families). Unless a word is significantly beyond grade level we discussed that I will not be answering the “how do I spell...?” Question. Students will be encouraged to use strategies that we have used in class. We completed our math review together today in class. Students will be bringing it home tonight. On MONDAY we will have our test and it will follow the exact same format as the review. I encourage you to practice with your child at home to make sure that they understand how to create patterns and sort pictures.
At at the end of the day we went to the library since we missed our normal time on Monday. We had so much fun this morning with math centres. Every centre was building different patterns with different materials. Our favourite centre was using stickers. Students will be having a test on patterning on Monday. A review package will be sent home tomorrow along with their textbooks. We are wrapping up our Science unit on living things. This afternoon we were lucky to welcome 2 police officers from the road safety department to give a presentation to all of the Grade ones! We learned so much! |
